Commercial ceiling cleaning

Nano Clean has cleaned commercial ceilings across Edmonton since 2010 — acoustic tiles, stipple, painted and wood, including the ceilings other companies say can't be saved. We use 220°F dry vapour steam and a biodegradable, non-toxic solution, so there's no harsh chemical smell and nothing left behind on the surfaces below.

Don't replace your ceiling tiles. Clean them.

Grease, smoke and nicotine staining sits on the surface of an acoustic tile — it hasn't destroyed it. Dry vapour steam lifts that layer off and returns the tile to its natural condition.

Replacing a ceiling means demolition, disposal fees, waiting on materials, scaffolding and days of disruption. Cleaning means one overnight visit. For most Edmonton businesses the difference isn't close.

Acoustic tiles also stop absorbing sound properly once they're coated in grease. Cleaning restores the acoustic performance you paid for — not just the look.

Why steam and not harsh chemicals

Harsh chemical ceiling cleaning creates two problems. The first is residue: whatever you spray on a ceiling eventually settles on the surfaces below it, which in a kitchen means food prep areas. The second is the tiles themselves — caustic degreasers and wet methods break down the surface of acoustic tile and leave it looking worse over time.

Dry vapour steam is 94% dry, so very little moisture ever touches the tile. Heat does the work. That's precisely why it's safe on acoustic ceilings where pressure washing and wet scrubbing are not.

How long it takes

Most single-room ceilings are finished in one overnight visit. Large spaces, very high ceilings or heavily soiled tiles may take two. Barry gives you a firm timeline with the estimate, and we work overnight, before you open, or on your closed day so it costs you nothing in service hours.

Common questions

Can greasy ceiling tiles actually be cleaned, or do they need replacing?

In most cases they can be cleaned. Grease and smoke staining sits on the surface of the tile rather than soaking through it, so dry vapour steam lifts that layer off at a fraction of what replacement costs. Tiles that are water-damaged, sagging or physically broken do need replacing — Barry will tell you honestly which is which when he looks at them.

How often should a commercial ceiling be cleaned?

Restaurant kitchens usually need it once or twice a year, depending on what you cook and how well the exhaust runs. Dining rooms, offices and retail spaces are typically every one to two years. Warehouses and high ceilings need annual dusting. If your ceiling looks noticeably yellow, it's overdue.

Will steam cleaning damage acoustic tiles?

No. Dry vapour steam is 94% dry, so very little moisture ever touches the tile — that's exactly why we use it on acoustic ceilings. Wet methods and pressure washing are what damage them.

Do you need to shut the kitchen down?

No. We schedule overnight, before opening, or on your closed day. You lock up dirty and open clean.

Is it safe around food prep areas?

Yes. The machine runs on tap water and the steam leaves no harsh chemical residue behind. Where a detergent is genuinely needed, ours is biodegradable and non-toxic.

Do you clean ceilings in warehouses and schools too?

Yes. High dusting of steel trusses, ducts, pipes and light fixtures is regular work for us, as is acoustic tile cleaning in schools, churches, clinics and community halls.
